Ayr United v Alloa Athletic

1 - 1
Full Time

Reaction

Alloa Athletic and Ayr United drew 1-1 at a rain drenched and windy Somerset Park today, the teams will now need to meet again in a replay at the Indodrill Stadium, Alloa on Tuesday 11th November, 2014. Liam Buchanan put “The Wasps” in front after 29 minutes, his fourth goal in past five games, Graeme Holmes inch perfect pass had allowed Liam to run in behind the home defence and bullet the ball high into the net. Five minutes later the home side drew level after Ryan Donnelly managed a back header from a corner to equalise. Ayr United had plenty of possession but the closest the sides came to a winner is when Stephen Simmons struck a chipped volley which came back off the crossbar to deny Alloa a winner on the day. Craig McDowall pulled of a wonderful save to deny Ryan Donnelly his second goal of the day the closest the home side came to clinching the tie.

It is never easy coming to Somerset Park, I thought Ayr United did extremely well and we know we can play better, we need to raise our game above what we did today but credit to Ayr United they made a cup tie of it and played extremely well. Stephen Simmons came close to scoring a spectacular winner, he has that in his locker on another day that goes in, but we will now take the tie back to the Indodrill Stadium. Craig McDowall pulled off some important saves for us as well but all over the park we need to do better than we did today. That’s two games and two 1-1 draws but I do think we can play better but on the day credit to Ayr United for not allowing us to play.
