Frustration was the overriding feeling as “The Wasps” were held to a goalless draw by Albion Rovers at the Indodrill Stadium. Although Jim Goodwin’s side were the dominant force throughout, the Rovers defence stoos resolute and tried to snatch victory on the break.

The closet the game came to a goal was when Jason Marr’s header struck the post before a last ditch clearance scrambled the ball away from goal with the Alloa captain claiming the ball had crossed the line.

It wasn’t the result manager Jim Goodwin had hoped for in his first home game as player / manager, it seemed if the players could get one goal, more would follow but sadly it wasn’t to be on the day.

jim goodwin after first home games ends in stalemate

I thought we did very well today, we dominated the ball, I would be interested to see what’s the stats were in terms of possession and crosses into the box, but we just couldn’t get that we bit luck in front of goal, and then towards the we were committing so many men forward trying to get the win we were leaving ourselves a wee bit exposed at the back so they had their chances in the last five or ten minutes. We knew they would be dangerous on the break, we had done our research during the week, we knew they would put ten men behind the ball and try and hit us on the break and that’s exactly what they did.

I thought we dominated the game it was just the game lacked that goal, I believe if we had got one we could have went and got two or three. We had a load of corners, fourteen I have been told, the first half particularly we worked and switched play very well, it was something we had worked on during the week we got Scott Taggart and Calum Waters high up the park to get balls in the box but we just couldn’t put any of them away unfortunately, the clean sheet is pleasing obviously, so we can take positives from the game but we are disappointed not to take all three points.

Next week against Stenhousemuir well be another tough game, they beat Queen’s Park 3-0 today, although Queen’s had a player sent off after 46 minutes but Stenhousemuir are well organised as well, we played well at Ochilview in our last game and were two nil up and then something happened and we ended up only walking away with a point, but they are a good side and we respect all other sides in this league as we always do and we will do the exact same preparation as we have done for this game – the only thing which was missing today was a goal and it was just unfortunate that we couldn’t get the breakthrough.
