Andy Graham becomes Manager

Andy Graham, as a player and leader, has been an integral part of the team since joining in the summer of 2016 and we’re delighted to announce Andy as the next manager of Alloa Athletic Football Club.

Andy said: “I’m delighted and privileged that the club have decided to offer me the manager position. I’d like to thank Brian Rice for how he allowed me to get more of an insight into a coaching role in his time here.”

“The support have had in my time at Alloa has been outstanding and they will have a big part to play moving forward. I’m looking forward to working with the players as well as the rest of the staff at the club to try and make my time at the club a successful one.”

Andy Allan, Alloa Athletic Chairman, said, “I’d like to reiterate our best wishes to Brian Rice as he moves on to Livingston. While he’ll be difficult to follow in the role of manager, with Andy Graham, we’ve got a man who knows the club very well — its inner workings, the players we currently have and their strengths — and shares the expectations we have for the club.”

“He has been there and done it as a player, served as club captain, has already begun his career in coaching, and we look forward to working with him now as the manager of Alloa Athletic Football Club.”

Brian Rice

The club can confirm manager Brian Rice is leaving to join Livingston Football Club.

We would like to put on record our thanks to Brian for his outstanding service since joining Alloa Athletic in February 2022. A much improved Alloa finished just outside the play-offs at the end of the 2021-22 season and, in his first full term, missed out on promotion after qualifying for the Scottish Championship play-offs. We wish him all the best for the future as he returns to the SPFL Premiership.

We would also like to thank Livingston for the utmost good faith they have displayed during these discussions.

Show Racism the Red Card

Alloa Athletic FC are proudly continuing their support of Show Racism the Red Card’s Match Actions Campaign during today’s Cinch League One fixture against Kelty Hearts. Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism Education Charity, working within schools, workplaces, sports, and community organisations to educate children, young people, and adults on challenging prejudice and stereotypes. Using the power of football is a powerful tool to initiate conversations about anti-racism and our club has supported their messages of tolerance and inclusion for many years. Now more than ever, the importance of active anti-racism cannot be overstated.

Across Scottish football, clubs will show their commitment to anti-racism over one weekend – Friday 20th, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October. This weekend also coincides with Show Racism the Red Card’s UK-wide annual fundraising drive, Wear Red Day, taking place on Friday 20th. On this day, individuals and groups up and down the country are encouraged to wear red and donate to show their support for the campaign and its message.

The Match Actions weekend also takes place during Black History Month and as part of the celebrations, SRtRC are partnering with the National Library of Scotland. On the 26th October at Glasgow’s Kelvinhall, there will be a film screening and discussion about Andrew Watson, Scotland and the world’s first black international footballer.

Billy Singh, from Show Racism the Red Card had this to say; “We are delighted with the support for anti-racism that exists within Scottish football and are very proud of our upcoming match actions. However, the work must continue. We call on our supporters to continue to challenge racism. It is a shared responsibility across the game, from dressing rooms to boardrooms, and from stadiums to social media, to ensure that an anti-racism ethos is maintained throughout the year. And please remember that all our teams are made up of different nationalities from all over the world. Migrants make a positive contribution to Scotland and that’s something we should celebrate.

Here at Alloa Athletic we recognize the importance of being alert to the inequalities that persist due to racism. A recent SRtRC survey revealed 46% of staff are aware of racist bullying or discrimination in Scottish schools, while 66.4% are aware of pupils expressing misconceptions, stereotypes, or negative attitudes that are racist.

Football is a sport that is loved across the world and football matches should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, of all backgrounds. Education is the key and in the 27 years the Show Racism the Red Card has been running, they have educated over 1 Million participants, reaching that significant milestone in March 2023. Alloa Athletic FC are proud to support them to reach their next big milestone and to ensure Scotland is equipped with the tools to challenge and eradicate racism from football and society. Also known as Billy or “Moose” by his teammates and fans.

Born 7th May,1952, “Moose” began his footballing career with Bonnybridge Juniors before the late Hugh Wilson signed him for Alloa Athletic FC, hec made his debut as “Trialist” on 28th December, 1974 v. Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill, later signing on 25th January, 1975 after playing against Hamilton Accies at Douglas Park.

“Moose” was a great favourite of the Alloa Athletic fans and in Season 1976/77 he was part of the Hugh Wilson team which won promotion, the first promotion since season 1938/39 and it was won at Firs Park, Falkirk against East Stirlingshire, a single Gordon Forrest goal was to win promotion. Bobby Wales signs

We’re pleased to welcome Bobby Wales, on loan from Kilmarnock.

Wales, 18, has just signed a deal at Rugby Park to keep the promising striker until 2025 and will continue his development with first team football at the Wasps.

Bobby has regularly represented the Scotland youth team from U17 up to U19 level and although Kilmarnock B exited the SPFL Trust Trophy in the second round on penalties against Dumbarton, Wales was on target against the Sons and Bonnyrigg in the previous round.
