Alloa Athletic v Brechin City

2 - 2
Full Time

Reaction

Saturday’s point against Brechin City hopefully will give the team the lift they have been needing in recent weeks as the team look to reproduce thr form we showed earlier in the season. it could be said the team played better at Ayr the previous week but got nothing from the game, the important thing on Saturday was the team came back from starting the game poorly against a very good Brechin City side who are currently full of confidence and had chances to go 3-1 ahead before injuries to Ross Philp & Andy scott after we had used our three substitutes could have been more costly. Our next game against Peterhead on Saturday is now the focus in what will be another very important match for the club, lets hope some of the injuries from the weekend clear up, however Billy Gibson & Kevin Motion will be available again after a period of suspension.

ALLAN MAITLAND AFTER IMPORTANT POINT IN BRECHIN

First and foremost today I think we must look at that result as a point gained, rather than two points lost, the effort and application again today was fantastic. We didn’t start the game well, I thought Brechin City started much better than us in the first 20 minutes, they scored a goal in that time, which was a mistake from Jamie Ewings but he recovered really well and played well thereafter, and had a magnificent save just before half-time. We got back into the game, but could count ourselves a bit fortunate to go in at half-time level, however in the second half we played really well, scored a good goal then probably should have went 3-1 ahead when Jim Lister was right though and he was undecided if he was shooting for goal or squaring it for Bryan Prunty. Brechin City are a good side and they were always in the game at that stage, but we have had five players injured today, not just knocks or whatever but five concerning injuries, we had used our three substitutions then had a player, Ross Philp carried off reducing us to ten players and latterly went down to nine players when Andy Scott took an injury, he did go back on knowing our lack of numbers but he could hardly move, so the effort to stay in the game today was great and we needed that point, we have been on such a poor run of results, we played much better last week strangely and lost – but we have been on such a poor run of results it was a really important thing for us to stop that rot, we are pleased with the result , we will look at the injuries and see how they are for next week and we will move on from there. I thought Fraser Forrest did really well for us again today, coming back into the team in the last couple of weeks and I think it is a welcome point for us against a very good Brechin City team. On the penalty incident, I think Bryan Prunty got there first and Craig Nelson saved from him and then went into Bryan, I didn’t think it was a penalty – I think the referee got that one right. We look like the walking wounded at the moment thankfully we do not have a midweek fixture like other clubs this coming week but the last thing I would like to say is to wish Brechin City good luck on Tuesday night, they are in a fantastic place in the Scottish Cup Quarter finals and they are representing the Second Division and we wish them well.
