Alloa Athletic players reported back for pre-season training tonight, but first thing manager Paul Hartley did was to confirm the signing of 34 year old experienced International striker Andy Kirk. Andy was one of the players forced out at East End Park last season after Dunfermline Athletic went into administration and was keen to renew his football in the First Division having played successfully in the division for the past five seasons, scoring 71 goals in his time with “The Pars”. He has lots of experience which he hope can be beneficial to “The Wasps” as they look to back to back promotions over past two seasons. His first target is to set up an understanding with new strike partner Kevin Cawley and will look to target a double figure goal strike in forthcoming season. It was a great first work out for the players with only Graeme Holmes still on holiday, Darren Young returned from holiday in Dubai yesterday and will now sit down with manager Hartley over next few days. Paul Hartley took the opportunity to run his eyes over five other “trialists” on the evening whom he has invited back to the next training session. It is expected, the defender who is looking to sign for the club will be able to do so, but the club await clearance before announcing it is a done deal.
