    Alloa win Keyline Cup

    Tuesday, July 14, 2009 8:19:53 AM

On Saturday 11th July, 2009 Allan Maitland took Alloa Athletic north to play in the Keyline Challenge Cup at Mossfield Stadium, Oban. This has been a favourite pre season tournament for Allan Maitland having won the tournament for his first time in 1996 with Maryhill Juniors, he then won the tournament in 1999, 2000 & 2001 with Clyde and with Alloa Athletic in 2007, prior to this years tournament. It is pleasing to report Alloa Athletic again won the tournament again this season in 2009, making it, the sixth time Allan has now the trophy. I have included brief report of the tournament from Brian Roach from the Alloa 7-0 Supporters club.

    Alloa 1 Dundee United 0.
Dundee United had a fair few first team players including Steve Banks, Darren Dods and new signing Danny Cadamarteri. Scott Walker and Buisty dealt with Dundee United attacks well, and although under the cosh most of the first half, 2nd half belonged to Alloa and they won the match from an absolute belter of a free kick from Agnew

    Hamilton 0 Alloa 1.
Alloa played a few of the fringe players against a young Accies team. Alloa won it right at the death, a brilliant run and cross from Carrots left an empty net for Coakley to score with a header.

    St Johnstone 1 Alloa 1.
Alloa lost an early goal here, but managed to battle back and equalise in the second half through a fine run and finish from the edge of the box by John Grant

    Hearts 0 Alloa 2.
A young Hearts team who contained a few players I thought were technically excellent. Hugh Kerr scored both of Alloa goals- 1st he chased a lost cause and got his reward, the 2nd a great finish with his left peg

    Alloa 2 Oban Saints 1.
Alloa had already won the tournament before this game. An Andy Scott penalty and a brilliant first time finish from Carrots won the game.
