Manager Jim Goodwin Previews tomorrows match v. Stranraer

Stranraer are coming in to tomorrow’s game with an outside chance of still making the Play Offs. I think Stevie Farrell deserves a lot of credit for keeping his team in contention considering the difficulties he faced in January when he had to let a number of senior players go. He done great work in the loan market and has had to turn to a number of younger players who have come into the team and added real energy and endeavour. Our last meeting at Stair Park ended in defeat for us and we will be hoping to reverse that scoreline this afternoon. We weren’t quite at the races that day and will hope to give a better account of ourselves today and finally cement our place in the Play Offs with a positive result.

I couldn’t be happier with how our own form is at present and the players come into today’s game high on confidence and self belief. March was a very busy month with seven games to be played, and I am delighted with how the players came through that difficult period. Of the seven games, we managed to win four, draw two and lose one, only league leaders Ayr United, have a better points return. What is also very pleasing is how dangerous we look going forward in recent weeks, in the month of March we scored 18 goals, which is great credit to the players for being so positive in those forward areas.

It is also worth mentioning the character shown by the group this year when they have had to come from a goal or two behind to rescue a result. From losing positions this year we have managed to pick up a staggering 21 points. That tells you all you need to know about the character and team spirit of my players. They are a credit to this club and they will fight tooth and nail for you the supporters to try and give you a day to remember in the weeks  to come!

The important thing for me as manager is that we take nothing for granted and don’t just assume we are guaranteed the Play Offs, I have never took anything for granted in football and I’m certainly not going to start now. There is still a lot of work to be done and the players have been made well aware of that fact. The bottom line is if we take a positive result from the game today then that place will be ours, and only then will we dare to dream of what might be!

Thanks as always for your support and please do all you can to drive the players on with positive shouts of encouragement as you have done in the weeks and months gone by. The players are human and will make mistakes, but one thing they guarantee is 100% effort.

    Enjoy the game.

    Jim Goodwin
