    Wasps secure Division Two status

    Sunday, May 03, 2009 4:51:23 PM

An impressive team performance at Somerset Park, saw “The Wasps” secure their Division Two safety with a deserved draw, to clinch safety and condemn Ayr United to this seasons promotional play off matches. Alloa were without both Brown Ferguson and Andy Scott for such an important fixture, however it was Alloa who had the best of the first half and both Gary Carroll and Brian Carrigan could have put them ahead. Eight minutes before half time Mark Roberts put the home side ahead, Alloa at this stage were very unlucky to be 1-0 down. In the second period Ayr United had far more of the ball but Alloa still never gave in. This season too many inconsistent performances, especially away from home have cost us dear, but at Somerset Park the players were fantastic. With fifteen minutes left an excellent pass from John Grant allowed Greig Spence to beat the offside trap and he coolly advanced towards the keeper and scored Alloa’s deserved equaliser. We got the point to guarantee the club will be playing in the Second Division again next season and along with Raith Rovers defeating Queen’s Park at Hampden Park the score lines confirmed our safety.
