    Unbeaten in Pre Season

    Saturday, July 16, 2016 5:30:51 PM
The Wasps completed their pre season schedule with a final friendly against John Coughlin's Berwick Rangers side today at the Indodrill Stadium, it seemed strange to be playing a friendly while other clubs had began their competitive games with the start of the new Betfred Cup with the first of the group matches, but at this stage in the season it was all about fitness. Manager Jack Ross was happy his side ended their pre season games unbeaten with the 1-0 victory against "The Borderers" and getting back to winning games, which will be vital in the league matches, which will once again be the priority. The only goal of the game was scored four minutes prior to half-time when Isaac Layne scored a goal worthy of winning any match, his second in the pre season after also scoring against Fort William. As in many pre season games, to allow managers to look at players and rotate numbers, Jack Ross used 20 players against Berwick Rangers including a brief appearance for ex Wasp, Pat Scullion, who had been training with the team, having last appeared for "The Wasps" back in Season 2008/09. Fifteen year old, Declan McDonald replaced Greig Spence for the last fourteen minutes of the game and caused the Berwick Rangers defence many problems. We now must concentrate on our introduction to this season's Betfred Cup against Highland League side Cove Rangers on Tuesday night at the Indodrill Stadium, who did extremely well on Friday night at Station Park against Championship side Raith Rovers, narrowly losing 2-1. Admission prices on Tuesday night v. Cove Rangers, will be Adults £ 16, Concessions £ 8, Season Tickets are not valid for this fixture.
