    No Winner

    Sunday, January 17, 2016 5:38:47 PM

Thankfully the abandonment of football games is not a regular call, because there can be no winner, if your team is leading you want the game to carry on, while if you are losing it can be a chance to regroup and gain something from the rearranged fixture. On this occasion “The Wasps” were deservedly 1-0 ahead and on track for three vital league points, but it was not to be, even Michael Duffy’s 41st minute goal will be erased from the record books. On the day Alloa can take great credit and belief from their performance and take this into the rearranged game when a date can be arranged.

The last time a competitive league fixture was abandoned at Recreation Park, as it was known at the time, was back in Season 2007/08 against Berwick Rangers, on 22nd December, 2007, when leading 2-1 after goals by Derek Fleming & Scott Agnew, and Berwick Rangers down to ten men, referee David Somers abandoned the game due to dense fog, citing not being able to see the other side of the pitch or corner flags. When the game was rearranged for 12th January, 2008, “The Wasps” again recorded a 2-1 victory with goals from Dougie Wilson & Graeme Brown, let’s make sure we can let history repeat its self and we can still go on and collect the league points, which looked a distinct possibility on Saturday.
