    Wasps win Derby

    Monday, July 27, 2015 6:30:40 PM

The Wasps progressed to the next round of this season’s Stirlingshire Cup, a competition which the club had not won a match in the last seven seasons. This evening Danny Lennon’s side won far more convincingly that the final 2 – 1 score line suggests, which was helped by some fantastic saves by the Stirling Albion keeper, Cameron Binnie, who had some unbelievable saves, including a 84th minute penalty from substitute, Scott Hynd. The visitors only pulled a goal back in the closing minutes of the game when Tommy McAllister’s, shot come cross deflected of Mikk Reintam to give the visitors an unlikely consolation goal. Alloa Athletic will now meet current Stirlingshire Cup holders, Stenhousemuir in the semi-finals after they received a bye in the first round. The Wasps have not won the competition since defeating, Clydebank 4-3 in the 1996/97 final, the last time the club reached the final was in 2000/01 when they drew 2-2 with East Stirlingshire, but then lost the penalty shoot-out 6-5 on penalties, after Derek Clark’s penalty went high over the bar and ended on the Alloa – Stirling railway end.
