Allan Maitland on Northsound Radio 2 – Previewing game

The game is definitely on which will please the two Jimmy’s with the surface we have, which I know they both love, so there is no doubt about that first and foremost. From our point of view the preparations are going fantastically well in the sense that we will be playing in front of a full house, 1,900 Aberdeen fans coming down for the game and 1,200 Alloa Athletic fans so we should have a great atmosphere and a great day for the team and the town. This is a completely different game from our normal match day and we will need to change our match plan for the game. I have seen quite a lot of Aberdeen, In fact I was at their game last week against Hamilton Accies due to the fact our game against Stirling Albion was called off due to a frozen pitch, they have been on a really good run recently and last week was an exception to the fact they played so poorly last week but a lot of that was down to the flu virus. Aberdeen have great players determined to make up for last years defeat in the semi-finals by Queen of the South, so there is no doubt they will have a huge determination to do well tomorrow and I expect them to come at us and we will need to address that and find a way first and foremost to prevent them playing , certainly Sone Aluko for a start, Lee Miller who has been a tremendous player this year, we also need to stop Gary McDonald running into our box as well, I think that is the three areas first and foremost we need to be aware of but we can’t just allow them to have possession of the ball for 90 minutes, we have got to find a way, of when we have the ball keeping it and then causing them a problem. I think the playing surface can help our home form but or away form is absolutely abysmal and we as a club have problems adjusting to it. The simple thing is, if you are a football team, a full time football team and you come to a surface like Recreation Park its absolutely fantastic, you can play football till the cows come home on it, this has to be better than the old uncut surfaces, and the park would be up and down and at times be a mud heap, but it is nothing like that now, for Aberdeen it is a great advantage. To have any chance Aberdeen would need to have a bad day, we also would need a break of the ball, the fact the game is at home means you always have a chance and we are definitely going to have a go at it, there is no point in us having a home game against Aberdeen and not having a go. You are only going to get one go at it and tomorrows our one go and you can be rest assured our players will be fired up to come out and have a real go at Aberdeen.
