    Massive win

    Monday, February 24, 2014 3:57:48 AM

Saturday's result against Greenock Morton was a massive result for the club, the players showed great spirit and commitment for the full ninety minutes to make sure the manager recorded his first victory for the club, a result which was throughly deserved. The Wasps started the match on the front foot and showed their intention very early taking the game to Morton. The opening goal came on 17 minutes when Graeme Holmes wonderful pass over the top of the Morton defence opened the opportunity for Ryan McCord to score his fifth goal of the season. Alloa were well on top in the first half and might have paid the penalty for not getting a second goal. However Eddie Ferns diving header at the start of the second half looked net bound until a wonderful save from Morton keeper Derek Gaston kept his side in the game. Morton piled on the pressure in the second half but in the end it was the Wasps who again had an opportunity to increase their lead when substitute Derek Riordan was brought down by Dougie Imrie, which resulted in a red card for the Morton player but remarkably only a free kick on the edge of the box.
