    Allan Maitland after Stenhousemuir game

    Tuesday, July 14, 2009 7:36:35 PM

Tonight’s match appeared to be a challenge match rather than a friendly, to be fair in the pre season games you have to be aware that each game is a different step up from the last game, tonight it physically was a challenge we have not seen at this early stage in our warm up games, this was the same for both teams and I have no qualms about that. The referee tried his best to let the game flow as much as possible without booking anybody, but unfortunately for the referee I thought the players took it a step too far and overstepped the mark, but a decent exercise, happy we never conceded a goal, we are still not quite sharp enough to create enough to win the game, however Chris McCluskey in the Stenhousemuir goal did pull out a couple of top drawer saves to keep his side in the game. Well done to Stenhousemuir they have shown already just what they will be about this year, physical, strong and hard to beat, and they used four strikers in the match, strikers are the people who will either sink you or save you. Going into the penalty kicks we would like to have won but our record in penalty shoot outs is not good, Nicol Campbell tells me that Alloa have not won in the last fourteen penalty shoot outs at Recreation Park! On a more positive note we hope to negotiate a deal to bring Brian Carrigan back to Recreation Park from Linlithgow Rose and hope to conclude deal by the end of this week. Brian Carrigan along with Stuart Noble and Brown Ferguson still to add to the squad would increase or creativity which was missing tonight.
